About Rev. Claire Rose ...
Claire Rose , M.Div., MFT, RScP brings the heart and wisdom of her multi-disciplinary background to Oakland Center for Spiritual Living, serving as Assistant Minister and head of the Music Ministry,spiritual counselor and teacher. She began her ministry in 1977 when she was ordained a Lutheran minister (the first woman ordained in the AELC), serving the University Lutheran Chapel in Berkeley, CA for 10 years. In 2001 she became a SOM Practitioner and in 2006 completed the ministerial affiliation process with United Centers for Spiritual Living.
Rev. Claire has been a licensed psychotherapist for over thirty years. Her practice centers around the integration of mind-body-spirit, combining somatic therapies, the expressive arts (including music, movement, sounding, imagery) and spirituality. She has been adjunct teaching staff for the Expressive Arts Graduate Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) since 1998.
Rev. Claire is a visionary and trailblazer. She felt and saw a celebration of Spirit made manifest through rich music . . . a vibrant, embodied choir, compelling soloists, an inspired band. She envisioned the joy of harmony, rhythm, and color enlivening the congregation and inviting them to join in this glorious expression of God. Out of this vision and with her strong musicianship, her love for people, and her ability to encourage others in their gifts, Rev. Claire founded the JOY! Choir in September, 2000. Under her direction, the JOY! Choir and it's Full Heart Band performs throughout the community, as well as the Oakland Center for Spiritual Living.
About Larry Steelman...
Larry Steelman is a multitalented songwriter, musician, producer and author. He has a degree in Composition from North Texas State University. Larry’s passion and vast experience in the music industry has him recognized as a visionary. Larry played with Willie Bobo in Los Angeles. In the early eighties, he arranged, toured and recorded with Johnny Mathis. He went on to record with Carl Anderson and was Carl’s musical director for seven years. Larry has also recorded with Natalie Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Mick Jagger, and Gloria Loring. His compositions have been featured in films like Home Alone and 2010.
In 2005, Larry produced a flute and piano CD with local flautist Dawn Sea Kahrs. In 2006, he co-produced a gospel CD entitled, Through It All, with Sharon Henderson. Two months later, Larry released his New Thought Gospel Music CD entitled One Light containing all of his original compositions and performed by the Joy! Choir in Oakland, California. His dedication to composing, arranging, and recording music that conveys New Thought teachings inspires all those around him.
